About him

ANDRZEJ E. WARCZOK

PROFESSOR ANDRZEJ E. WARCZOK

Born: September 22nd, 1944

Passed on: April 30th, 2018

Andrzej was a brilliant man who was a Head of Department of Metallurgy and Copper and Rare Metals at AGH in Cracow, Poland, Senior Research Fellow at U of T, a Professor of Pyrometallurgy at at University of Chile. He travelled the world as an engineering educator and a consultant. He never retired ; one of his last project included participation in designing and launching of the world's largest slurry furnace at KGHM in Gologow. He published dozens of articles and holds multiple patents to his name. Andrzej was married for 53 years to his high school sweetheart, Ela . For over half a century Ela made sure that Andrzej did not forget to eat, dress and had a safe home to return to. His daughters, Kasia and Magda, fondly remember days when their dad left for the university with a garbage can instead of briefcase or wore his mother's coat to work just because his brain was to busy with thermodynamics and kinetics of metallurgical reactions. Andrzej was happy when Maciek and Tim joined the family as they were the only people at the dinner table who could understand the science behind his inventions. Andrzej was a proud and loving dziadek to Daniel and Sylvia who made his days brighter. A celebration of Andrzej’s life will be held at University of Toronto, Hart House - Music Room, 7 Hart House Circle, Toronto on Sunday, May 27 at 1 p.m. We ask that those attending the memorial to honour Andrzej’ wishes and not wear all black. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Independent Living Services of Simcoe County. Andrzej’s extended family, friends and co-workers and students will have an opportunity to pay their respects at the burial which will take place in Poland at a later date. You taught us that there is more than one way to achieve your dreams; despite the disability and chronic pain you never gave up. We love you and and miss you and will never forget.
